Botox injections are done in the office, is safe and typically takes less than 30 minutes to complete (depending on which muscles are injected.) There is usually minimal, if any, pain caused by the injections, but some patients may feel some mild discomfort during the procedure. Patient consent is obtained prior to the procedure.
The term ‘Botox’ was originally used to collectively describe a group of chemicals known as botulinum toxins. They were first used by doctors to treat patients with uncontrolled muscle spasms of the eye or facial muscles. Since then they have been found to be very effective in the treatment of several other conditions.
Botox injections relax the muscles so they are capable of being stretched more easily. This also frequently results in increased range of motion of the injected muscle(s). In addition, pain, caused by the previously contracted muscles, is reduced. Some of the conditions for which Botox injections can be treated in our clinic include:
Other disorders which are approved conditions for Botox injections include facial wrinkles, hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating), strabismus, blepharospasm, and vocal cord weakness.
